The clothes in Burberry Prorsum's S/S 2009 collection were described by Christopher Bailey as 'crumpled classics', which explains the timeworn and gently rugged aesthetic that permeated the runway. Inspired by the photographs of Valerie Finnis for the book Garden People, Bailey presented an effortless wardrobe in an earthy palette. Realised in soft vintage calf leather with a luscious texture in a beautiful petrol blue/grey hue, the jacket has a beautiful feminine cut. Softly padded shoulders give the jacket an understated elegance, while its contoured lines create a flattering nipped-in waist. The form-fitting silhouette is further enhanced by a trench coat-style belt with a large buckle, that can be easily removed or replaced. The stand-up collar, lapels and waist pockets have an intricate layered construction that gives subtle visual interest to the piece, while demonstrating the high level of its craftsmanship.
The jacket has an abundance of well thought-out details that demonstrate its high quality. The sharp multi-panelled construction of the bodice is executed with great precision and is fully reflected in the construction of the lining.
